How long till I get my order?

If your item is in stock, that means it is completed and ready to ship and typically ships within 48 hours of your order. You will receive a tracking email from the shipping company when we drop it off at the shipping distribution center. We ship Monday through Friday until 5pm CST. Please check our retailers if we are out of stock and feel free to contact us at info@beetlepercussion.com if an item is out of stock and you want to know when it will arrive again. We make items in batches and typically announce what we are working on in social media, as well as announce the completion date so people can be prepared to purchase first come first serve. We do not mass manufacture. We hope you can appreciate the extra time it takes to produce hand crafted solid wood instruments in our homes garage as we strive to expedite our methods to facilitate our inventory and high demand. We appreciate first hand the time you put in the practice room to achieve performance success - we hope you will patiently return the favor as we hand craft your product from recycled materials with artisanal attention to details.

What are beetle killed trees?

In the Colorado Rocky Mountains alone, there are over 3.3 million acres of woodland that has been killed by a beetle infestation and there are over 6 billion standing dead trees due to a combination of mismanagement and beetles in the western U.S. The beetles burrow into the bark of the trees laying their eggs, and in the process a fungus carried by the beetles infect the trees. The fungus ultimately kills the tree and turns it's grain into a blue-grey color. We source the majority of our lumber from Colorado but also 200yr old pine and ash from other beetle-affected states such as Montana and Kansas City.

How do Beetle Percussion products help?

Mitigate forest fires by reducing fuel loads. Improve forest health and reduce threat of wildfire. Remove sections of beetle affected decaying forest. Replace dead carbon producing trees with CO2 consumers. Help the continent deal with an ecological disaster. Keeping car tires from landfills and oceans. Since 2018, Beetle Percussion also plants a tree in Colorado for every product you purchase. With each item purchased, one tree seedling will be planted in the beetle affected forests of Colorado to assist with restoration. We have teamed up with our partners at the Colorado State Forestry Service at CSU, and are excited to not only be able to remove harmful materials from the environment, but now also replace them with new life. In the aftermath of destructive wildfires, reforesting burned land helps protect water supplies, restores wildlife habitat and reduces flooding and erosion.

Maintenance and care?

Care for these products as you would any other fine percussion instrument. In fact, because these materials ore on their second life we advise treating them even better than an instrument made from brand new materials. We strongly advise against getting any of our instruments wet, dropping them or any activities that can damage the instruments functionality. Our wood is not finished with an acrylic gloss finish because it is an indoor pollutant as it deteriorates, and if you choose to remove any “character” (dents and scratches) you might have added, you can do so by simply sanding and applying natural Danish or mineral oil.

Are they hand made in America?

Yup! 100% Kansas City (Olathe, KS) is the current home of Beetle Percussion. Currently myself (owner/operator) and my wife do it all from our homes garage. We love the time hand crafting allows us to think about the percussionists we are making instruments for and the future life the they might have. We also use 100% American materials.

Beetle Percussion Wood Defect Disclaimer

Due to the nature of our reclaimed wood, each board will vary slightly and may include knots, cracks and other markings. These are unique characteristics of a storied past, and should not be viewed as defects. Remember, this is the second life for these materials, we do our best to craft them into percussion but they cannot be compared to like new items, however, any deficiencies these material may have for percussion are more than made up for my their ecological benefits. Lodge pole pine is naturally a soft wood. The final product has been oiled to both enhance the beetle stain and harden the surface. It is still, however, soft and can easily dent. We want to advise you of this so you can decide for your self how much “character” you wish to add. In some cases, quantities are limited and we substitute reclaimed maple for beetle-killed ash.

Warranty Information: Beetle Percussion Satisfaction Guarantee

Beetle Percussion llc warrants our products to the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship for the first year after purchase. Solid wood has a tendency to move and change in different seasons and environments. We are constantly changing our practices to improve our construction methods to ensure a life long product. If however you feel that the instrument has moved or cracked too much and it has affected the sound and structural integrity, by all means we would love to either fix or replace the instrument at no charge in the first year of ownership! If we have changed the way we make an instrument then you get the new version and your old instrument will be turned in to cutting boards! Using this reclaimed wood in percussion is an experiment and it will come with many discoveries both good and bad but we are in it for the long haul and prepared to remedy and evolve our instruments to compete and last a life time. Our warranty does not cover any damage caused by neglect, improper care, accident, or normal wear and tear. It is our discretion if instrument damage is the result of defect or improper use.
